Just Hoops !

Just Hoops! is the first game developed by Realcast. It is a VR physics-based arcade basketball game where the players physically interact with the basketballs, either with their controllers or with their actual hands using hand-tracking.
The game features more than 60 themed levels where the goal is to score as many hoops as possible before the time is out. These levels can also be played as series of levels, alone or with other players.

Originally released on Meta Quest as a solo game in 2021, Just Hoops! was first ported to PICO headsets in 2022. Two multiplayer modes were then added to the game in 2023, and it was finally ported to Apple Vision Pro in 2024.
This project has been in development since 2021. For the first 2 years, Just Hoops! was the main focus of the studio and the programming team reached 5 developers. Most of the production team collaborated in Unity using git.​
My contribution
During the development of the solo version of the game, I had the chance to work on many different topics: from the different levels and their various mechanics, the series of levels game mode, the combo mechanic, the menu, the save system to keep track of the player's progression and choices, to the online leaderboards.
After the release of the solo versions for Meta Quest and PICO headsets, the programming team then focused on the development of two multiplayer modes: a 1v1 matchmaking mode and a private room mode.
In 1v1 matchmaking mode, two opponents are automatically matched in a competition where each player picks a series to challenge their opponent.
In private room mode, a hosting player creates a room and shares its ID with up to 3 friends to join the party, where they can compete in series.

We also implemented a mixed reality mode which lets the players enjoy the game in their real environment instead of our virtual environments.
